Co-Operators Insurance and reloading in your dwelling.

my understanding is they base coverage/premiums on the risk therefore they would have to have ample precedent to increase the risk for reloading activities. IE. Reloading based claim statistics

oops Sorry, that's my logical basis of understanding. Insurance companies typically dont use that methodology.

Well - it pays to shop around. Its ironic that Co-operators are putting commercials out about their modest, cooperative beginnings and people friendly attitude! I recently changed insurance companies, and knocked a whopping 35% off my combined home and auto policy.
As far as inspections go (most recently it was the dreaded woodstove), I tell them to wait for the policy renewal if they "want to roll the dice". That usually shuts them up. I dont have a mortgage, so I guess I can afford to be capricious...

I have no mortgage either but that doesn't seem to make any difference down here.I also have 4 vehicles insured with them plus two large barns in the 30x50 range and never a claim not even for a broken windshield in over 20 years.
I did call around and I get a group rate through work so even with the increase it is still under the rest. Suck it up I guess.

Generally you'd be right. Take a look at policies written by the big three.

Well - If the insurance companies were better at managing the risk of making investments with your hard-earned premiums in the stock markets, we wouldnt be taking it in the shorts.
Here in Ontario, they recently "cheapened' the base auto insurance coverage - in order to keep premiums from rising. Then they turned around and offered the old benefits as options for substantial bucks, claiming "premium" coverage! Yikes, they should increase the education requirements to get into MBa school.

Maybe for some.

Perfect driving record - 8 stars (for the wife and I) no claims against the house or autos. Everytime I go to shop around (moving house + 2 vehicles) because I have faced nothing but increases the last few years (thanks Dalton ) I am shocked by the quotes I receive. Anywhere from 25 to 50% more than I am presently paying. Figure this out.

I also tried to get a quote for the camp I'm building up north and just about, no, I DID choke at what they were asking - about $1,500 a year. And as others have said, they're all freaked out about the wood stove I haven't even installed yet. WTF?

All that being said, I have a comprehensive option on my policy and everything is covered, no riders required. I've read my policy, carefully, AND had discussions with my Co. about what is and isn't and scenarios. I do not and have not disclosed the fact that I own a decent quantity of firearms or reload.

I f'n hate insurance (companies).
