Co-witness question on M14s

NONE!!!!

The M 14 iron sights are down low in the hand guard rail slot, and unless you add AR 15 type sights on to the rail, NO cowitness for you with an M14.

This isn't exactly what you're looking for, but I remember reading a review about a year ago saying that an Eotech would co-witness on an Ultimak M8, but I can't remember if it was on a Socom, or a regular M1A.

Why do you want to co-witness???

Typically, it would be so you can use your irons in case your optics fail, without having to remove said optics and risk losing zero or not putting them back at the same spot when you are using them again.

Also, there might be shoots that do not allow the use of optics at all and you'd have to use irons.

A quick use of Google shows that you are correct, sir. So now, where can I source an Ultimak M8 in Canada. Preferably from one of our sponsers.

Will the UltiMAK M8 fit the Chinese barrel without issue?
I have not been able to confirm this and would like to know.

Thanks.

I have installed close to 20 or so on chinese barrels with no issues reported from clients. The fit up of the mount and fittings during instal required no modifications.
Brownells ships this item with no issues should our favorite Canadian suppliers be out of stock.

They can ship it despite being over $100?

I have referred folks to brownells for numerous items not carried by our spnsors or seldom availlable here.
Mounts rails and sights are not essentail to the firing group so are no longer controlled... Providing the part is manufactured by a business holding a valid export liscence.
Try our dealers and sponsors and if no luck, contact Sandy Morranville at brownells international desk.

Is this true? I ask, because only 2-3 months ago they were still considering rails, sights, grips (etc) as regulated firearms parts....and that was from Brownells International dept. It would be awesome if this portion has changed.

.

I ain't making it up
I have referred several folks to brownells for these items since october and none had issues receivinng the items
Ultimak rails, sprinfield match sights, springfield gas cylinder, M1A bolt rollers and more.
I won't pretend to be an expert on what is controlled and what is not, but the above items have been ordered and shipped since october

So I ordered and recieved both an ultimak M8 and a full rear sight(springfield armouries) from brownells. FANTASTIC.

But the question remains, which red dot sight can I put on there and have it co-witness?

I just confirmed it with Brownells. I understand that, while manufacturer and exporter must be registered, rails and rings are regulated by Commerce, not State, and there is no per-order value limit.

An eotech for sure won't co-witness...you'll need something with a low profile like an aimpoint in their factory low 30mm rail:

It also allows ultra-low mounting of the springfield scout scope. I pulled my aimpoints a while ago and have been running the scout scope for a while. It keeps growing and growing on me, especially given that my eyes aren't what they used to be!
