So I put 30 rounds of 12G - 2 3/4 Rifled slugs down range yesterday, and they really beat the crap out of my face.

I've put about a hundred rounds of birdshot through the Gun without issue, but the slugs really left me with a honkin lump, and bruise on my cheek.

I suspect the bulk of the problem came from about half of them, which I fired while seated, with a barrel rest. The other half which I shot standing, weren't quite so bad.

My shouldering is good, and I've been pretty confidant with my shooting techniques up till now, but the lump don't lie.

I did manage to put a fair majority of those slugs on target at 50 yards, so I'm pretty happy with that, but frankly, my ugly mug simply doesn't need any further deformation! :HR:

Any tips would be appreciated.

One of these maybe?? :D

You are pushing your cheek too hard against the stock... when teh gun recoils it is taking your face with it.... no need to use your cheek to steady the gun... your arms and shoulder should do that....

Sitting punishes my body far more than offhand "head to toe shock absorber" stance, but not my face... Perhaps you're bending your neck over too much? Try bringing the stock up higher on your shoulder? Hmmm... is the stock sharply peaked on top? Glue a mousepad to it?

That could be it.

I wasn't sure what's worse, too tight on the stock, or too loose.

I'm guessing - too tight!

Thanks guys!
