Coalition for 'shotgun-for-bear-defence-thread' control

me, and my big mouth... I should know better...that's ok, lesson learned ;)

forgive us... we're too bored of these threads, so we pick an all of the guys that don't realize this is a joke.

One either has the tools to confront a bear or he doesn't.
A short trip to ANY local gun shop would set you up for the task.
All other inquiries are better dealt with in a <<better penetration>> <<stopping power>> etc. manner, rather than making this a bearwise program.

What Guntech sait is right on. What about making a subfolder with all the sticky-es? One can look them up, but the majority have already ignored tham thousands of times. Only post the new ones for a couple of weeks (at the top of the page) and then move them in the subfolder....

Please....

So much bear advice from folks in Ontario . Hmm... I'm from Ontario , Thunder Bay , Northwestern Ontario . If you can believe MNR figures we went from 90,000 black bears before the cancellation of the spring bear hunt to 130,000 now . Since there are relatively few bear in southern and eastern Ontario that puts the bulk of them in my backyard and there are many nasty encounters every year .

shot 5, guided 6, been present for the shooting of another 4 or 5? have seen a few 100? maybe more, see 2-12 of them every day I'm out fo the city. I hunt them with a camera mostly these days. if you want advice on dealing with bears talk to the lads that work in the bush out west, they guys that deal with them almost every day. if you want advice on dogging for does, well...... How many bears do you run into in a year? and not the ones when you're in a treestand over a bucket of donuts.

Not born in ottawa, but nice try :D

What we ought to do is find a good thread about shotguns for bear defence, and then sticky it. That way, people will be able to find the information they want right away, without having to leaf through endless pages of results.

I say burn the heretic!!!!!!! BUUURN him i say! :)

Bear defense threads are always fun :)

Gatehouse's 'propane test' thread was pretty definitive, and has been backed up by many other testers and by real life reports of effectiveness.

Slugs slugs and more slugs. That's how you put a hostile bear on the ground.

The simple fact is - nobody will amass enough first hand experience with killing hostile bears to become a true 'expert'. Or if they do, they should probably be in jail cause they gotta be doing SOMETHING to provoke 'em :) And while experience on non-hostile bears is very valuable, it's not the same thing as having to actually deal with a honked-off bruin in your lap.

So to a degree, we're all a little dependant on third party info, 'testing' and a little theory.

But i don't think anyone can make a reasonable argument for buckshot over slugs.

i recomend slugs and lots of them, but use whatever you think will do the job and i garuntee you will be the second to find out if it doesnt *the bear will be the first*

come on bigred waiting for response is killing me ....this is getting good maybe we should move it to OT???
lets go boys have at er............ and BTW WTF is wrong with dogging for does ??? they taste just as good .......................

Ok ok ok I've been I've been a member here on CGN for about a year now and I've alway injoyed the Bear defence threads and the Zombie defence threads.
But I feel I now need to ask this question..........

What is a good defence gun against Zombie Bears?! :D

What is a good defence gun against Zombie Bears?!

Zombie bears can be some of the most troublesome of the zombies out there, right after zombie squirrels. (you do NOT want to screw around with zombie squirrels. )

I'd reccommend alternating between slugs and this;

blammo Ammo's Own DRAGON'S BREATH Fire-Spewing 12-Gauge Round!

This is the round everybody talks about! Originally used as an anti-terrorist incendiary round curing counteroffensives in the Vietnam War. Blammo Ammo's 12-gague "Dragon's Breath" expels a load of exotic, fast burning, high temperature metals 300 feet, totally engulfing your target in a momentary 4,000-degree fireball! Also known as the "Three Second Flame Thrower," our "Dragon's Breath" is popular with anti-drug and SWAT [!!!] teams as a temporary stun round in case of resistance [!!!!!!!].

Will NOT harm your shotgun barrel [Thank God for THAT].

Caution: If used at night, we recommend proper sunglass protection.

Three rounds per pack. Each pack $16.95.

Of course - as 'wildlife' AND undead, you still need a hunting license to shoot them. If you don't have one, remember to tell the CO that it was 'Comin' right for us!! verrry slowly at a shamble.'

There are a number of books out on the subject of bear attacks. There is an author "James Gary Shelton" who has written three books about these attacks and has interviewed numerous victims / hunters to try and get an understanding of survival in these situations. What he preaches is when a grizzly has come within 30 yards, start shooting and make your shots count. The books were written in the "90's" and the gun he reccommends is the rem. model 870 pump action with rifle sights. The bottom line that he states is Know your gun (practice makes perfect). Shoot slugs and practice. Double odd, ssg, or triple odd buck is not something you want too throw at a pissed off grizzly. Anyone fishing or bowhunting in grizzly country should definately read his books. I personally used to carry a winchester defender with pistol grip when stream fishing in British Columbia. I have gone to a 10 gauge side by side sawed off to the legal length, shooting federal one and three quarter ounce slugs.

In the Cariboo,

we are more worried these days about a new sort of critter haunting the bush in the fall:

Ruffed Werechickens!

They're similar to Werewolves, but much smaller, so they're harder to hit with a slug.

For defence, experts are debating between a 10/22 with a 50 round Hot Lips mag full of silver hollow points, or a crossbow with oak shafts.

Any opinions on this would be appreciated!

Yeah, I've always enjoyed the bear defence debates as well, but the thing is that getting to all of them is very difficult. Wow... this thread was made a long time ago. I'm surprised I never noticed it get resurrected!

I wonder if I should try melting these silver spoons down and pouring them into a slug mold?

- Dave.

I wish I still had photoshop as I'd be making up a Zombie hunters tag book. :D
