Cogswell & Harrison sporterized Lee Enfield no1 mkIII

.
Many of these rifles were "sporterized" after WWII by some of the Trade Gunsmiths in England. This created a bit of economic relief at a time when it was needed.

Most of these rifles were of the Economy versions, but some were upgraded with nicer wood, etc.

Cogswell & Harrison, Parker Hale, Midland, Churchill and a host of others did these conversions. Many were sold in Canada by Eatons, Sears, and other hardware firms and companies.

A couple of good pictures is worth a thousand words if you want more information.

Cogswell and Harrison on mine also. Stock was hand crafted by my father in law and has a manufacturing stamp of 1916 on it. Shoots straight and got my first Blesbok with it.

There was one for sale in the EE recently, albeit somewhat pricey. I have one that is identical. They are comparable to the No1 MkIII Parker Hales or Churchills (they have the same Siles stocks) and command the same price. The one in post #3 is likely a pre-WW2 model, and worth a fair amount more than the post WW2 models described here.

It's a fun little gun. If any rifle ever felt like it was alive, this would be one. I'm holding it for a Kiwi friend of mine, until
I either get it there or he shows up to claim it. In the meantime I'm supposed to kill something interesting with it.
