Cold Blue Problems

...in general I have found that those that don't take cold blue well also don't rust much or at all.

Good to know.

After 3 rounds of heated bluing it does seem a bit darker. Back in the oil overnight. I also just received my black stainless barrel and it's more of a dark grey, so might work out.

I spray brake cleaner into a rag until dripping and then wipe all surfaces to be blued 3 times with fresh rags each time. Heat the metal a bit while doing this. I also heat the metal when applying the bluing. Oxpho liquid first coat and then Oxpho paste for all coats after that. When done with bluing I heat the metal again and soak all metal with G96 and keep wet for a few days. Has worked well on everything I have tried it on so far.
Make sure rags are left open to air dry so you done get any spontaneous combustion. Gloves are nice too.
