"With your best field rifle, known range & favorable conditions (good visibility, light to no wind, prone on bi-pods, time on your side); how far do you feel you can hit a 6" circle with your coldbore shot (no sighters) with a 90%+ confidence (you'd be willing to put up a $100 bill on hitting it)"

I have taken a challenge upon my self to try this no matter the conditions. 20 shots on 20 different days!

I will be doing a video documentary on my progress

Today I shot from 587 yards, In very windy conditions

good stuff! Do you intend to go further out after you can hit it consistently? or are you keeping it in that ~580yrds region for the 20 day challenge?

Nice shooting, and great idea. I always thought your hunting limit distance is the one where you can bag a 4 liter milk jug cold bore, every time.

So are you cleaning the rifle every time or is it a "seasoned" cold bore shot?, also what caliber is this rifle?

I am going to have to try this seems like a good exercise. I will try at 500 meters to start. I will not be doing right after cleaning though. I think a 4 liter milk jug is a good target for this

Nice shooting Clayne! Can you give us,(me) a run down on the rifle, scope, and loads that you are using? Also, I noticed a level on your scope. How important is that is making these kids of shots? Thanks again, great shooting. I will also be trying this, when I start "rolling my own."

Thank you,

Rifle is a Remington 700 SPS Varmint
Sitting in a McRees Precision stock
Timney Trigger

Scope is a Vortex 5-15x44 MIL MIL

The loads I was using, 43.5 gr Varget 168 gr SMK, Fed 200 Primer, Fed brass

I ran out of Varget and can not find more, SO now im trying out 45gr RL-15, 168 gr Berger VLD, Fed 200 Primer, Winchester Brass

The last 2 days I have been shooting Berger 168 VLD's With RL-15 powder. And that is a load I have NO experience with. I am not blaming the results on that. But check this out

Here are some groups I shot after the Cold Bore shot with my original load with a 168gr SMK with Varget powder and the VLD RL-15

SMK< 5 shots each >VLD
