Hey all, looking for someone in the Cold lake/Bonnyville area, that owns an AR for some help. Have been trying to de-snag my AR with no luck, thinking it is the crappy Olympic lower I own. Fails to feed almost every shot. Have tried 3 different mags of different manufacturers, different ammo, no luck. Have threaded it on here, and the best explanation is the lower. Looking to meet up with someone at the Bonnyville range so I could try my upper on a different lower to see if the problem goes away. I have ammo, just need 10 minutes with your lower. I want to avoid buying a new lower just to find it is a problem with the upper (I doubt it, but stranger things have happened!) PM me if you happen to be heading to the range, and I will meet you if you are interested.

Thanks

Chris

Check that the gas block is nice and tight to the rear of the barrel. I was having a ton of feeding issues with my home built AR, and upon closer inspection, the gas block set screws had come loose, and the gas block had drifted forward. By smacking it back with a piece of wood with barrel cut out, and applying loc-tite to the set screw threads, I have not had any issues since.

What was wrong with it?

Well, as far a I can tell, it was machined "not quite" right. Some of the indicators were:

1: I had to use a small plastic tapper (I don't like to use the word hammer, as it is not like I had to beat them in to place) to get the front and rear pins to seat.

2: It would not hold open on a Magpul mag.

3: And the biggest problem of all, the failure to feed the second round after manually charging the rifle. (The first gas cycled round).

I swapped it out for a Norinco lower, went to the range, and 100 rounds with out one hitch, and it holds open on the Magpul mag now.

Sold the lower here to a fellow with an Olympic upper that did not play well with his lower, so everyone came out happy!
