Well, you learn someting every day. I just noticed, after reading your post, that one of the loops (the most prominenet one, actually) does appear to be attached to the mag, as well as one on the mainspring housing. I was only thinking of the one on the MSH. Somehow I can't imagine having to un-hook the old mag and re-attach the lanyard to a fresh one in a SHTF situation!
