Colonel Garner's 1914 Colt 1911 Government Model

That's a cool thread! I always wanted a Canadian Contract 1911 but never found one in good enough shape. I thinks we should have a sticky about them and this thread would be the perfect candidate for this.

I would like a Canadian Contract 1911 sticky as well. There's LOTS of information to share regarding these pistols, and they continue to surface.

Very nice, but what cartridge, the .455 Webley Automatic or the .45 ACP ?

The Canadian 1911's were in .45 ACP. The British did buy some 1911's in .455 from Colt as well, 2000 if I remember correctly.

I would love to find some boxes of period Canadian issue .45 ACP.

I have this Colt which is no where near as nice as the OP's (Col. Garner was obviously a desk jockey ;))
On the inside flap of the (very interesting) holster is written the name of a Lieut. in the 72nd Highlanders CEF (can't recall the name at the moment)
I have tried to research the name but haven't had much luck - where should I be looking for info on this man?

Nothing to be ashamed of here. I like the patina. Adds a lot of charm. Not that I don't like near pristine...
