Colour case hardened Ross 1905, my ongoing project rifle

LH thread, but heavy barrel. I think it's been almost 4 years since I started messing with this one.

I'll post more pics, just have a couple small things to try to sort out before finishing assembly.

Not sure where to share this already. The action was from a milsurp, but of course it isn't a milsurp refurb. I just think that this area has the most Ross fans viewing.

The barrel was made by Bevan King, I found the blank on the EE about 3 years ago. The stock was made by Bill at Alberta Gun stocks. There were a few tricky areas to smooth out on this stock, but overall I think Bill did a great job considering he had to switch out his templates on the duplicator just to get the Ross to fit in the target style stock. Due to the shape of the template for the target stock, the stock blank was barely thick enough to accommodate. I should have had him extend the cheek pad farther back, but I believe it was limited due to the blank thickness.

The scope is self explanatory I suppose. I'm sure the mounting locations aren't 100% for the type of scope and mounts, but I was limited due to lack of a bridge at the rear of the 1905 action. I suppose I could have gained 1" or so by drilling and tapping the front of the receiver, but I felt that leaving the receiver untapped was a better choice in case someone is looking for an unmolested one down the road (I mean years and years down the road).

I was also able to eliminate the Harris lever for the magazine, which helps to keep the stock a lot cleaner up front. There is no cross bolt and no notch for the lever handle. It turns out that the spring and follower from an Enfield mag fits just nicely into the Ross internal mag. I think I had to make a slight bend in the Ross mag to help prevent the follower from coming out. Nothing major though, basically a drop-in swap.

Also, the bipod isn't attached at all. The stock is just resting on it for the photos. I might have a hard time bringing myself to put a stud in this stock just for a bipod.

If tomorrow is a nice and sunny day, I'll have to try to take more pics outside. I don't seem to have any super awesome lighting in my house for pictures. These will have to do for now though:
