A friend showed me and asked about the value of the above. It has been in his family for years, I judge the condition as fair to good. It is a real Colt (confirmed by the factory), obviously is a single action percussion revolver. It is not registered but because of its age, I think it is an antique and probably does not require registration. Can anyone offer an opinion about the antique status and possible value? Thanks.

An original Colt caplock revolver will be an antique for legal purposes. Don't think there is a Model 1847 pocket, though.
As far as evaluation goes, there is too little information. There are too many variations; condition is critical.

Thanks for the reply. I do not have a digital camera to post pictures but maybe I can measure the barrel and look at the gun more closely. The backstrap is brass and there is some indistinct engraving of what appears to be a stagecoach on the cylinder.

I took another look at the revolver. I had the year wrong. It is 1849 Colt Pocket Model. The calibre looks to be 31, five shot, 5" barrel, serial # 325###. Perhaps I should post this on the Antique/Blackpowder forum but would appreciate any info. Thanks.
