Colt 1877... Best gunsmith?

Everyone says 1877's are a nightmare but I dont see why. Its just a few screws and the parts only fit together one way.
I have 3 working and 1 parts. I have taken them apart more than a few times. I used to build my own parts when I first got into them, but now I order them up, file a little off and away we go.
You can get the internals for a decent rebuild for $300-500. They will last a long time with new parts despite having a reputation for being delicate. You could always try it yourself first, its not working now, you've got nothing to lose.

Yeah, they are fiddly things to deal with, and require a bit of due care and attention, but a person not pressed too hard for time can find the info they need online, and carry out most, if not all, of what is needed themselves, if they were at all so inclined.
They are, I think, deserved of their reputation, as the parts are made somewhat lighter and less able to withstand hard handed usage, than the later DA models. They are a wee bit fiddly to assemble, but well within the capabilities of a kid that can read and follow the instructions on a plastic model kit.
Parts can be got.
If the project is to be sold at the end, I would casually suggest that like as not, it will become unprofitable to rebuild, as the cost of labor and parts, will add up to more than the difference in value between as-is, and rebuilt, like as not.
That, though, depends on what you have in it, what shape it is in now, and what you expect out of it, though.
