Colt 1902

Hi everybody,

I am new here and I am also new to the world of pistols

I have received recently a Colt 1902 pistol in .38 Auto caliber and i'm just asking myself how much this gun could be sold?? I don't plan to do it for now but I'm just curious about it. Do any of you have particular comments about this pistol? is it a piece of collection or just an old gun design that has passed without anything special?

I will probably shoot this gun for a couple of months, but I am also planning to buy a reliable 9mm (reliable but as much as I'm able to pay...) What would be your choice for a 9mm under 400$-450$ (no target shooting, my life will not depend on it, etc.)

The Model 1902 Colt in .38 ACP came in military and sporting configurations. However, it is not a particularly strong action. Make sure the ammo you shoot in it is only .38 ACP and not .38 Super. Values in Canada seem to be in the $1,200-$1,500 area for one in nice shape. Our local gun shop has one right now for $1,500 asking price. If it were mine, I'd only shoot it sparingly with light loads. I've owned a Model 1903 Pocket .38 ACP [which was a compact version of the 1902 above]. They are fun to shoot.

I had an "02 sporting model - lovely gun.

I wouldn't shoot it, just out of repect for a lady that old. The 38 ACP is very difficult to find, unless someone will load it for you.

.38 Super MUST be avoided - it will chamber and fire, but will destroy the handgun. It's far too "hot" for the older system.

You have a historically interesting piece - kind of a great-grandfather of the 1911. Hold onto it as a keepsake, and by something else to shoot.
