Hello all,
First of all I am sorry if this has been posted elsewhere but I searched and couldn't find much about what I am asking. So please bare with me.
I am fairly new to the pistol shooting community and am in market for a center fire semi-auto, and have recently come across a Colt 1911 series 80 in 9mm. Now I have only shot the 1911 in 45acp before and know very little about the 9mm colts. I have heard a variety of things about them including they are rare, they are great, the series 80 are problematic, they are jam machines, etc..etc..lots of conflicting data. I wonder if you folks out there with more knowledge than me on these pistols could help me out with some info.
Are these reliable pistols or are they really problem plagued/jam prone? Are they actually rare in this caliber? Are they difficult to get parts for? etc..etc. The pistol comes with a set of pachmyre grips (which I have on my revolvers and really like) and I believe one extra magazine. I would rate its condition at about 9-9.5/10, almost new looking so what would be a reasonable price? (unsure what they would have gone for new)
I know the former owner and have another one of their handguns so I am confident it was greatly cared for and from all accounts not fired much. They said they never had any issues with the gun. I know they are selling it because they no longer shoot pistol (a little older, and just wants to hunt now).
Any info you could provide me would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your time!
