Colt 1911 A1 45 ACP

Colt has pretty much missed the boat as far as civilian sales goes. Dribs & drabs. They totally let everyone else steal the 1911 market away from them.

Colt still sells a lot in the US. Look at their site - they have lots of pistol models. It's a Canada thing with the distributors either not able to get product or not caring.

True enough.... but I think they still have had the 1911 market taken away from them on both sides of the border... ;)

Colt's is producing ~200 1911 pistols/week. They have lots of models, but not all are in production at any given time.

US dealers have a hard time getting product as well.

I agree with you and Dangertree but it's hard to say which came first. When I got into pistols after being a revolver guy for many years I would have bought a Colt if they were available because I knew & trusted the name. I'm very happy with the Kimber 1911 I bought but I would still like to have a Colt. Will have to get Questar to import a Special Combat Government for me as I want a hard chromed one in .45. some time.

Too bad everything that they currently produce under their banner isn't available to Canadians.... :(

I was going to jump in on the previous post but resisted until you posted. As far as I'm concerned you might as well call Para a US company for all they care about servicing Canada. Kimber is more Canadian than they are.

Yeah, as much as I've always been a Colt guy I'm getting warmed up to Kimbers... :)

True...here is a quote from an exchange I had with Colt's Director of sales and marketing!

"OK, it is our fault, for a long time we have not shipped any significant amount of product to Canada. The main reason for this is our inability to properly supply our domestic market."
