Are the full size 1911 and Commander handgrips interchangeable? I’m thinking about getting a Commander and putting some 1911 grips that I have on it, is this doable?

Yep, no problem. The Colt Officers Model has a shorter grip frame, but Colt Gov't. and Commander share the same grip size.

Yes It's Do-able But Don't Over Tighten the Screws!

Yes, very do-able. Grips should interchange between full size 1911's & commander size 1911's no problem.;) :)

Just a word of caution... do not overtighten the grip scews! I've easily owned 100 different 1911's over the years & can't tell you how many times I've bought used 1911's where some bone-head has overtightened one or more of the grip screws. So when you go to give it a detail cleaning or to change out the grips the screw is in so tight the grip screw bushing comes out of the frame. Usually, this means having to replace the bushing! [Because the only way to get the screw & bushing off the grips at that point is to grab the threaded side of the bushing with some pliars & hope you can eventually turn the screw out of the bushing] Invariably, the threads on the old bushing are now pooched & it has to be replaced. I've probably replaced around 2 dozen or so bushings in my day because of that same scenario. :(
