Good day,

I recently purchased a new Colt 1911 -Special Combat Govm't-, the sight it came with, are the target Bomar low mount style. I am happy with the sights for target / bullseye style shooting, but this will be my IDPA gun so not appropriate for such use.

Here is a picture of my new 1911, and a close up of the rear sight.

a picture that shows the sight from a nice side angle.

As you can see this style of sight has many sharp angles, so its not the best choice for IDPA as you draw from a concealed holster with clothing. What kind of sight options are out there that fits the Bomar style of slide cut, that is more design for carry/concealed use. Being a competition gun, a wide notch rear with rounded edges are probably my best bet here.

Below is a picture of the slide cut Colt uses on the gun.

Is there a Combat Bomar sight, or some high quality substitute? any options, or suggestions are welcome.

There are a few vendors that make Bo-Mar style rear sights with the corners beveled. The other option is a fixed rear sight from Harrison Design & Consulting that fits the Bo-Mar cut.

Congrats on a beautiful gun!! If it was me I would leave the sight as is. The adjustable sight obviously has many advantages and I have used this same sight in IDPA for many years without a hiccup. If you find that it really is causing problems I would also look for the Harrison sight.

I appreciate all the reply's,

I have decided on the Harrison Custom with a flat back / no night sight. I will try the black rear / black front for now, and if required will step up to a more "flashy" front sight.

this is a pic of the sight I just ordered.

Good choice going with the black rear. A fiber optic front sight would be a great match.

Unfortunately Colt chooses to nake the Bomar cut so far rearward that the sight body/blade is exposed far too much and presents sharp edges and snag points as well as interferes with the hammer manipulation.

The Bomar can be cut more forward which buries the body/blade much better into the slide.
Unfortunately once the slide is cut for the Bomar it cannot be moved forward.

The sight you picked looks awesome!
Will be a very nice handling pistol with that mounted.

The reason the Bo-Mar style rear sight is further back than typical is that the SCGs are Series 80 guns. The dovetail has to located so as to clear the tunnel for the firing pin block.
