flush fitted mags
I prefer flush fitted mags for 1911's. too bad they're impossible to find any more because every company thinks everyone wants 8 round mags with extended mag bases.
I have a real problem finding good 1911 magazines. I've tried them all.....wilsons, chip McCormic, mecgar, metalform, tripp, original GI mags, ACT mag, pachmayer, and a whole bunch of cheap garbage mags from gun show tables. now I know why they were selling them to begin with.....cause they're garbage.
I like the 8 round Chip McCormic power mag bodies, but I hate the devel style followers that tilt forward. I find this type of follower doesn't always lock the slide back on the last shot and has a tendancy to jump over the slide stop pad, making you have to rip the mag out of your gun.
I have a few Chip McCormic mags that I replace the followers with regular split followers to function right.
I like wilson combat 8 round mags but I find if you load 8 rounds into them it's almost impossible to insert the mag into your gun. I heard wilson mags sit slightly higher than other mags and the reason for thier reliability is because of this. they don't rely on the controlled feed of tapered feed lips or perfect feed ramp angles. if you have a gun that causes three point jams, try wilson combat mags and they'll most likely go away......but I rather fix the problem itself.
I like 8 round ACT mags made in Italy, but I think the mag bases are fugly. so far these are the most reliable mags I ever used. they lock back on the last round every time, feed perfectly, strong springs. I just hate the mag base. Dlask sells these with his name on them as well as Novak and a whole bunch of other companies. Smith and Wesson uses these mags
I like the original 7 round GI tapered feed lip mags. the controlled feed is what the 1911 was designed to do. they fit flush in the gun. and the 7 round capacity doesn't require smaller weaker diameter springs so you can squeeze one extra round in the mag. the only problem is these mags are getting harder and harder to find and more expensive also they're a little fragile. you don't wanna be dropping these on the ground
what I'm trying to say is.....most of my mags are a mix of bodies from one manufacturer, followers from another manufacturer, and springs from another manufacturer to get a decent magazine that works.
and one more thing....I don't know why every company has about three or four different models of 1911 mags....like Chip McCormic has the base shooting star mag, the advanced 1911 mag, the power mag, and now the power mag +
why does wilsons have the 47D and now the new and improved ETM mags?
if they were so perfect to begin with why did they have to go and improve them? and why are they still selling the non improved ones if they're inferior to the new ones?
