Colt 1911

How do you date a Colt 1911 that's sanitized and has a serial number?
I have a 1911 that's been reblued but the only thing on it is US Property and a serial number that has been etched into the receiver.
Its a legal gun but is almost impossible to determine if its a colt and when manufactured.
Any thing I should look for to identify it?

1911 or 1911A1?

The earlier 1911s will have rounded rear sights, among other clues.
