Colt 1991

the 1991 has some improvements:
Larger ejection port.
Extended grip tang to prevent hammer bite.
More visible (larger) sights. (I think)

And some purist would say a draw back:
firing pin safety. FPS never bug me, and out of all the companies, Colt is said to do it the best.

The most recent Colts are great guns.

^Did not know there was such an animal as the 'new series 70?'

The new series 70 is a misnomer meant to make people think it is a gun without a FPS. In reality the series 70 had a Collet Barrel Bushing to improve accuracy.

The new series 70 does not have a collet bushing. The new series 70 is closer to a pre series 70 gun.

Get the new Colt 1991 .45 Blued Government Model.....Wolverine Supplies has a NIB 01991 selling for $1,115.00 Amazing price for an Amazing pistol.

I bought my NIB Colt 1991 from Wolverine couple years ago at the exact same price. Love it.. I've owned MANY Colt pistols, Series 70 Repro (blued and stainless) XSE, 1991's, etc and I have never been disappointed .

I love Colt 1911's :)

Colt, charismatic name, gorgeous pistol... JP.

Mmmm...I swear if I had that S70 I'd keep it under my pillow at night just so I could fondle it whenever I woke up.

The faint reek of Balistol would perfume my sheets

...TMI? LOL

Colt's never built a better pistol than they do right now. The 1991s, the XSEs, the Rail Guns...they're some of the best guns anybody is building at the non-custom level.

If you blueprint a Colt right now and compare stuff most people don't understand and can't measure - like the exact orientation of the magwell, for instance, or the exact placement of the slide stop hole - Colt knows what they are doing and WHY, and they're doing it better than almost anyone. You do get the odd gun that's shipped out screwed up by someone, like any other manufacturer...but Colt builds the 1911s I'd bet on, for a lot of reasons.
I have to strongly disagree with this statement. I used to have a 1991A1 and although it was reliable (save for the crap factory mags), the fit and finish was subpar, especially for a gun in that price range. My gun wasn't an exception either, as several other recently-manufactured Colts I looked at in gun shops exhibited classic manufacturing defects like off-centre recoil spring channels, leaning hammers, etc. The best pistols Colt ever made were made before 1970. If you've ever seen a Colt (particularly a commercial model) from that era you'd know what I'm talking about.

I sold my 1991A1 and replaced it with an STI Trojan. Comparing the two is like comparing a Chrysler to a Porsche...except the Porsche is only marginally more expensive.

Colt makes nice 1911, but I'll pick Springfield over colt when it comes to fit and finish. I had compared gold cup and trophy match, slide to frame finish and trigger job is night and day difference.
