Colt 9mm mags?

It depends precisely which type of "Colt" 9mm Ar mags you're referring to, the original Colt 9mm AR mags, with the metal followers, command high prices even in the states, $125US and up for used ones - which boast the best reliability and bolt hold open feature of the metal mags.

Different companies, such as C-Products, have produced official steel Colt mags but have mixed reviews.

The cheap, plastic, ProMag kind seem to get mostly favourable reviews depending on which brand 9mm AR you run them in, quite the science.

Brownells sells Metalform mags with metal followers for $40, just a matter of having the mags pinned and imported. ;)

$300 each? Ya right...who would buy a mag for $300?...maybe I should sell mine if that's correct.

This is what you want, I guess: http://w ww.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=316430716

This is the newer, cheaper ones: http://w ww.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=315509364

Uhm....the openning bid on the COLT mags x 3 is $240US, so $80US a piece, and not exportable to Canada.

Everything gun related is cheaper stateside, and canadian prices are driven by supply and demand.

Look at used KelTec Sub2K's they easily sell used for new/retail prices on the EE, which is already nearly double US prices.

I've been trying to source these steel 9mm mags for over a year now in Canada, the only recommended supplier was "H-Y-C-you know who" and they're gone, which is only going to make things harder.

Even IRUNGUNS only has 3 of these mags in stock.

So sure, they're cheaper and plentiful in the states, but in Canada....few and far between and never cheap.

A recent EE ad had the plastic ProMag kind that sell for $15US listed at $95 each. I'm guessing he sold all nine since the ad never got bumped.

Let me know when you get that sorted out, I'll pay $50 a mag.

If only it were that easy...

I know they can't be exported, was just listing it as an example of what they looked like, and $80us is a far cry from $300.

I'm not doubting you that someone once paid $300 per mag, but I find that insane, no matter how hard it is to get them. Just because something is hard to get, doesn't make it necessarily more valuable. If some knob paid $300 per mag, well, he's a sucker, thats all.

there was a time when there were ONLY colt mags in canada and Uzi mags you had no other choice so they mags were worth that much more it worked out really well for those of us who bough the RO634 smgs brand new the guns and mags are worth FAR more then we paid and probably will only increase in value

heres a pic of a few colt mags and some 32/5 plastic aftermarket mags the plastic mags feed fine BUT are tighter in the magwell and the follower shows some wear after use

where my colt mags fit perfectly and show no wear as they have the metal follower

pic is sideways and wont rotate for some reason sorry!!

Yea, I can't disagree with your logic.

However this is a general fact with any market place, rules of supply and demand.

I'm buying a 9mm AR, comes with two original Colt mags, 20 rounders - rarer than the 32 rounders, and I'm going to sell them to offset the purchase of the gun.

I talked to another CGN'er who turned down offers of $200 a mag for his Colt 32 rounders.

I'm happy enough using the Questar 10 round pistol mags until a cheaper hi-capacity 9mm AR mag is locally available.

It's just for a CQB clinic I'd prefer to use the longer pinned hi-capacity mags than fumble around with the tiny pistol mags.

ok here is a pic of the mags from left to right

rockriver arms 32/5 plastic body and follower

COLT 32/5 steel body and steel follower

COLT 32/5 steel body and plastic follower notice the small chuck out of the follower this is from the bolt stop

Good idea! I have some myself and was thinking the same thing; could use some extra cash.

So despite both of us thinking that $300+ is an unconscionable amount of money to ask, how much are you planning to sell yours for....

Me? I'm paying for them at a higher rate/price point since the owner is aware of their "unotainium" status, so I can move them along at the current rates guilt free.

Well, no, not really, I do need them. Although, if someone handed me $1200 for 4 mags, I'd certainly think about it, wouldn't you??

Ya I suppose I would thing about it. If I could replace them, I have six 5/32 that are a PITA to shoot because you have to reload all the time but even then I probably not sell them unless I was going to sell the rifle. To me it's like a package deal.

So who here has had good luck with the Questar 10 rounders? I got a bunch of them and they don't work in my gun without a whole bunch of filing on the feed lips. I have a Rock River dedicated lower, RRA upper and a Colt bolt and barrel. I have to file a bunch off of both sides for the bolt to even fit between the feed lips. A royal PITA to say the least.

I cranked up a thread on AR 9mm mags two years back (do a search). I have a number of short 10 rders and they work fine. I did the mods on a couple of Uzi mags and they work ok, just no bolt hold open on last rd. I want some steel 5/30 or 5/32 mags, but I'll be damned before I spend $300+ on a mag (untill I win 649 that is). At the time I phoned a couple of shops at the top of the page to see if there was an interest to order them in and was told to move along. Honest to God if somebody brought in metal 5/30 or 5/32 mags THEY WOULD SELL! Sigh

Not an uber expert like most here, and I realize you have a dedicated 9mm lower, but one of the variables is the height at which the mag adapt sits at. I run a Spike's Tactical that is adjustable. I started at the recommended height and bingo, 10 rders run like a charm. I cut up my Uzi mags to the same specs as the shortys and all is good

If I thought that they were an issue I would have bought a crapload but I figured six was plenty. Just too bad about H Y C A P S because he was a good source. Best bet is looking to be IRUNGUNS, It sounds like he will be selling parts and mags in the new year.
