Someone want to give me some insight as to the handguards? It looks like a really interesting model that got forgotten. Really surprised this model didn't get remade.... Sorry picture got huge...

Assent this the rifle that was made when the military wanted 2 projectiles per case or something?

Yep, as I remember.

The ACR program was about increasing hittability, but not terminal ballistics. I remembered it when I was a kid back in the late 80's, around 89.

There were the Styer plastic cased Flechette, AAI plastic cased telescopic ammo, HK careless and the most conventional Colt with Olin/Winchester

Styer, AAI and HK went for burst to achieve higher hittability ( light ammo, muzzle brake....etc) , colt/winchester went for tandem "warhead".

I think they figured out the human behind the weapon is the issue, not the weapon itself. They left M16A2 alone.

This dinosaur of an AR is the basis of all our future AR's we got today. Sure it's not an original 70's era rifle but this one is where the flat top rail was introduced, the buttstock is the closest thing to the SOPMOD stock (probably where it was derived from). The barrel is unique and I wonder if the thickness goes all the way into the handguard (I doubt it and is probably thin). I would have been stoked to see this rifle as part of a retro line up. Should have been part of a "forgotten AR" line up.
