was at the lgs seen one of these gawdy things and put my name on it. you Albertans seen one of these? don't have a pic lots of gold inlay custom grips ect.

Cabela's in Edmonton had one in their Gun Library. Haven't been there for awhile, not sure if it is still there.

Colt "Alberta Diamond Jubilee" Commemorative Model 1911A1

There were a couple for sale on consignment at one of the local shops awhile back. Owner wanted way too much money for them.

If it could be had at a decent price you could always ditch those gawdy grips & put on some real nice ones.

Then you could have a relatively nice Colt Series 70 shooter.

I never thought my eyes could suffer injury looking at 1911 pics, but I feel somehow violated, dirty and confused after seeing this. Then I "verped" in my mouth a little. How could people do this to a poor unsuspecting 1911?

Bet it would almost look okay without those grips & just some checkered hardwoods with Colt medallions in 'em.

As much as I love Colt 1911's, I find some of their commemorative pistol hideous such as this one!

And a quick slide swap. I've seen a couple of these pop up for sale, I'd pay more for a plain old Gov't than one of these.

I kinda like some of the engraved pistols but not this one.

Agreed. The gold on it is just nasty. Some engraving can be tasteful even beautiful if done right, and then there's the "cartel" pistols where the engraving has taken a hard left into the wall...less is more IMHO.
