Colt AR-15 SP1 - anything to watch for?

that's just what I want too. Man I'm jealous. What's one of these worth these days? Less cos its old or more cos its old?!

I got mine for $995 plus tax and shipping. I thought this was a good deal. Jeff/1911.

Why stop there? Get yourself a GI bipod, M7 bayonet, Colt 3x scope & you now have a full SP1 package to play with & admire.

As one who's had both a Colt SP1 (AR-15/M16 clone) and the Sporter II (AR-15A2/M16A2 clone), I've sold both and replaced them with military uppers on Olympic Arms lowers. Bushmasters and Armalites are good, too.

The reason is that Colt uses too many non-standard parts and all other commercial producers make theirs to fit the Mil-Spec versions. I have never liked the Colt double-headed screw that acts as the front pivot pin. They totally lost me when they went to the oversize trigger and hammer pins and when they chopped the bottom side off the bolt carrier.

The very first Sporter II models were essentially the M16A2 in semi-auto. They were of good quality. That quality went down hill through out the late 1980's (with the mods I recounted above), and totally out the door with the 1994 AWB in the U.S.A. Screw Colt. Buy anyone else but Colt.
