Looking for some help in establishing a value for my AR-15. It's a Colt AR-15 A2 Gov't Model with a GS serial number prefix. It's got a 1/7 twist 20" barrel, A2 flash hider, slab side receiver, A2 but stock. Between 1 and 2 thousand rounds through it. One of the reasons I'm asking instead of just going to the EE and checking is the slab side receiver. Thanks.

Who is going to pay $1500 for an iron sighted AR with a 20" barrel? Brand new rifles cost less than that, though they aren't Colt.

Did I? If you want to drink the overpriced Kool Aid than that's fine, it doesn't mean that it's fair market value.

I actually can't stand these "What's it worth threads?". I believe that their is a good reason why they are banned on certain forums.

Ponies are over rated for range guns.. Unless you're collecting pony symbols, it's not worth paying $500 more than brand new retail of any other make just to have a safe queen Colt.

Actually, the A2 gov't comes with a real A2 barrel. No one makes a good real A2 profile barrel out there. There were some FN A2 barrels floating around in the past. If you want to build a real M16A4 clone - you want that barrel.

Your looking for a pretty select audience if you want to sell that for top dollar. Otherwise most would rather buy a new one for about $1300.

I'm not Colt whore myself,i don't see the difference.
But there are the guys out there that want it all Colt, and will pay for it

Colt worth it?

Actually this is less a thread regarding selling my Colt and more trying to understand if it is actually better/worth keeping - rather than selling it and buying another AR. Greentips comment about the barrel was useful and has me thinking. I like the 20" barrel and maybe will just upgrade the trigger with a KAC or Geissele and be happy. What would be the pro's/con's of upgrading it to an A4? What make of upper receiver would I look for and who would I get to put it on? Thanks for the help.

Pretty much any A3 receiver will work - you don't want M4 upper (extended feed ramps - M4ramps -).

You can contact Walter at Arms East for both A3 upper and Geissele :)

A3/a4

Ok, that's something I'm not familiar with, an A3 vs. A4 receiver. What is the difference in the feed ramps? And though I know that I could put just about any upper receiver on it I am interested in quality - is there a difference among upper receivers? Thanks.

Many companies seem to be using the same forges to make their uppers. You can tell by the forge marks/symbols on the upper receiver. Someone with more knowledge on the topic could likely elaborate on which company is making who's uppers...

quality makes it a colt!

This man says don't sell your rifle.. There are many like it.. but this one is yours.
