I attained a butt extention (rather large and made of hard plastic - Colt) for an AR. I have never seen one since and does anyone know the particular value and or useability of such.

It's the cheek piece that came with the Colt AR15 Delta rifles... It is used to raise the comb on the standard A2 stock, and more importantly allowed for the use of the scope (that came with the rifle as a package) on the A2 carry handle upper. Don't know what they're going for now, but I remember them being sold for about $65 a couple of three years back...

I attained the cheek peice and a scope rail piece(screws into the top of the carry handle) a couple of years ago and basically forgot about them. Thank you very much for the info, much appreciated.

No worries. IIRC, the Delta came complete with the Colt branded Cherokee cheek piece (as in your pic), a Colt branded ARMS A2 see through carry handle mount, a rubber armoured 3-9 power scope, a Colt branded black leather 1907 style sling, and a Delta marked pistol grip - all in an aluminum case...
