Hello,

I'm a cloner in American working on a C7A2 clone. I understand the buffer tube is slightly different between US Colt and Colt Canada and I am looking to take a US Colt buffer tube and machine it to match the Colt Canada one. My first question is what type of buffer tube is correct for the C7A2? I've seen conflicting sources saying its a 4 position and a 6 position. Is it the same for the C8A3? Also, if someone has access to one and could take measurements of the depth and width of the area circled in this picture that would be a huge help. Thank you!

Old ones are 4 positions and new ones (+ replacements) are 6 positions.

With the new end plate mod being installed, a few older 4 positions were switched to 6 positions on the current C7A2s.

Will take some measurements later and update here.

oldest ones were 2 position.

On C8, yes. C7A2 came with four position right from the start.

Buffer tube is the same as Colt except Canada doesn’t use castle nuts, they use the older style. I think it was starting with the C8A3 that they started machining off the exposed threads on the buffer tube. Replacements would be the same as C8A3.

Newest carbines are coming with 6 position, most of the cf inventory is 4 position. Go with a mil spec 6 position. Nothing special about the cc buffer tube. No markings. The 4 position tubes have less threading and the older style retaining nut, the new 6 positions I saw comes with a castle nut and the ambi triangular sling plate.
