I apologize if this top has been covered already.

I just ordered an SA 15.7 and was told long ago that the upper receiver rail is a different profile than the standard on other AR15’s.

Is this so? If so, do I need special mounts for optics, aimpoints, acogs or carry handle?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
CB

You mean the picatinny rail on top of the upper receiver ?

Never had issues mounting: eotech, aimpoint, leupold, elcan and back up sights from magpul and ARMS.

I think you might be confusing the CC CF rifles that use a weaver rail... Now I'm not 100% on what their civilian rifles use as I don't own one, but it would be stupid for them to use anything but picatinny.

CC CF = Diemaco ?

If by that you mean issued army rifle, no issues with any of the optics named in my previous post, it all fits.

OP: you will not have issues mounting quality optics to your CC SA 15.7 The only time I've seen people having issues, they were using knock off optics or cheap mounting solution.

Just adding my $0.02. I have a SA15.7 and I had the same concern before purchasing. No issues with any optic I have tried.

Thanks everyone, that is what I was referring to was the weaver style on the CF c7 & c8.

The A.R.M.S #40 low profile rear sight has a model specifically for Colt Canada/ Diemaco C7 / C8 rails.
That got my brain spinning when I was ordering one. I assume they are referring to the old CF ones.

I did some further reading and the new CC SA rifles use a NATO rail....
I ordered the standard model so I should be ok....??

The older rails on the issued guns used a weaver spec rail instead of picatinny. A lot of QD mounts would not work on them.

The difference between Colt Canada and Colt uppers is the rail slot cuts being only slightly different spacing, and the rail is only a smidge higher so they don't have to use F marked FSP's (that's why you see that little scallop cut above the charging handle).

All in all, you don't need to worry about special adaptors.

A lot of optics now a days are designed to fit on both styles of rails to make it easier for the customers. But the CF rifles are weaver rails, even new produced ones. I know this, as it's my job to work on them. lol

interesting. Probably the days of the C7A1 ?

All of the days. Spec has never changed to my knowledge and our use of railed uppers pre-dates the 1913 spec. Canada can be be cutting edge at times. Too bad it was over a quarter of a century ago.

All the c7s including the current one is weaver rail. I believe thats the 14 rail receivers. The commercial sa20s and sa15.7 unless im mistaken is mil std 1913 rails.

Some stripped uppers are the 14 rail weavers unless im mistaken

Iur and mrr are full stanag 4694 rails up top and i think 1913 side and bottom rails

As I understand, CAF C7 and C8 rifles (C9 as well) use a propitiatory rail which predates the M1913 Picatinny; Canada invented the Flat top M16/AR15/C7. That being said is why new production civvy uppers are marked 1913 above the gas hole in the upper receiver to differ from the Diemaco rail. In reality the difference between the two is a slight difference in width and do not effect parts compatibility.

Not true. A lot of accessories are designed for the wider 1913 spec and won’t fit on a Weaver rail. Just look at Sinasta’s post just before yours.
My ARMS buis won’t fit a Weaver without modification. It’s why they list a Cdn specific model. My ADM mount won’t fit a Weaver rail and I believe the same is true of Larue. ACOG work with Weaver though, unless you’ve put it in an expensive aftermarket base.
Weaver spec stuff will fit 1913 but not the other way around. If it’s designed to take up the full width of the slot that is.

Sorry if this has been answered already but... I recently got a 15.7 upper and noticed it does not have T-marks on the top rail. Is this normal for CC?
