Trying to decide if i want to buy the mrr. How difficult is it to change the barrel from the 11” to the 16”? Ive heard u need special tools? Are these special tools avalable for purchase? How much is involved to do this swap?

Need to switch barrel lengths due to usa trips.

Anyone gone through this barrel swap process on the mrr?

Any thoughts or opinoins welcome.

It would be simpler to build a 16" upper for your USA trips.

Or, maybe the 15.7" IUR could fit the bill ? Has anyone succesfully travelled to USA with a ColT IUR ? Or is the missing .3" killing it ?

This^. The time to do it alone would make this worth while IMO. You can still run the same BCG an CH in a second upper very easily.

Every time you switch out a barrel you will put pressure on parts and they will wear a bit which isn't a huge concern until you accidentally strip a nut or something. Also, you would need to re-sight your optic every time.

If you want to swap barrels all the time and use a monolithic upper, you should get a LMT MRP, not a Colt Canada MRR. LMT MRP is designed to allow user to swap barrels without any special tools, other than a torque wrench. See the torque wrench and the head in the picture, that's all you need to swap barrels. The barrel is held on to the receive by 2 bolts, see the 2 silver dots in the picture at the 6o'clock of the upper. You can buy as many barrels as your desire, including 224 valkyrie.

Similar rifle is purchased by the New Zealand army:

wouldent i have to sight in the rifle when i changed the upper as well if i changed it over each time? I was under the impression if i changed the barrel or upper either way i would have to check my zero each time before going out. Fyi i would be using the same optics for both uppers.

If you have sights/optics on each upper, then no. They will stay zeroed with the upper receiver. If you change the barrel by itself, then YES you will need to re-zero it.

You could have a red dot on the shorty and a 1-4 or small magnification on the 16" and you just swap the uppers out at will.
