Colt Combat Commander rear sights

Hi all, I just took my new to me Colt Commander to the range, and it is consistently hitting aprox 4" high, and 5" right, at 20 meters. Is there some way of moving the rear sight (military-non adjustable) without causing any scratches?

If you're very VERY careful you can do it with a brass rod or a solid piece of delrin/ABS/or nylon. A bit of lube in the dovetail, wait an hour, then start tapping. Use some masking tape to outline where you start so you know how far you've moved.

Otherwise you'll need a sight pusher tool. You can find them on e-bay or wait a bit for the made in Canada one to show up.

BTW what kind of ammo are you using ? It's possible that moving to a different load can help. Also if the gun is new to you, you might want to wait a bit before modding it much. Depending on whether you have a high mount beaver tail or not, that can change your point of impact significantly, as well as grip thickness and trigger length.

Thanks for the reply. I'm using 6.5 gr Bullseye pushing a 185 semi wadcutter (B&B Bullets) The commander is stock, with the short beavertail. The POI is fairly constant. I can 10 ring it by shooting low and left, but I'd rather have it hit where I aim. I don't want to put target sights on it, Its not a target pistol, its my fun gun. (when the range gets too quiet.
 
You could go with a Novak or Heinie rear sight. Better sight picture and generally just a touch higher than stock so that would bring you down a bit without having to file or change the front sight.

Tweaking loads for POI is a better subject for the reloading forum, but you might try some 230 gr RN just for fun and see if it's closer to dead on.
