Prob. asked before but..
Does the combat commander share any parts with the standard 5" 1911A1.
besides that what are peoples opinions on these guns. Whats the recoil like etc. They look difficult to keep on target.
thanks,
Dave

The only difference between the Combat (steel frame) Commander and the
standard 5" Gov't. model is the length of the barrel and slide....
Granted the sight radius is shorter, but recoil is comparable, and some feel the
shorter gun 'swings' better, and argueably would make a better choice for CCW.
I'm quite partial to the unit, and find I shoot it as well as the 5" version...

Did someone mention a Colt Combat Commander? I own its brother a Colt LTW Commander and it is a gem of a carry gun. Before anyone asks, yes, those are Hakan grips. Regards, Richard :D

Here is my Norinco Commander. Not a Colt but that isn't bad either. Great shooter. My bedside companion, (Locked up under two locks with ammo stored in a different locked location of course).

hey Canuck44, that's a nice pistol ya got. What kind of trigger is that? was it an easy install? and also what other mods did u do to your Nor. commander?
thanks,
Dan

Lets see from memory:

Para Beavertail
Para Ambi Safety - since switched back to Norinco Safety
Para FMSH
Dlask Long Trigger
Novak Trigon (sp) front sight, Novak rear
FLGR
Cocobolo Grips
Dlask Hammer & Sear
4 lb Trigger
Wolfe Springs
Shok Buff

All work done by Gunnar at Armco. Does nice work but does take his time.

Presently loaded with Montana Gold 185 Gr HP

At the time I had a Para P-14 and wanted the grip to feel the same on both guns. Since sold the P-14 to my youngest son and bought a PAra SSP.

Dlask did my Norinco A1 and she is a shooter as well. Kind of like twins only the A1 has Heinie sights which I prefer now. Dlask flattened and checkered the MSH, installed long trigger which I Prefer, did all the innards and installed Wolf Springs. I am going to have Dlask dehorn the gun, checker the frontstrap and re-blue after removing all but the serial number of Norinco markings.

Here she is:

I have another Norinco I have left stock which is a great shooter as well. Next up is a Norinco Commander to be left stock. Both will get a trigger job and that is it.

I should add the Commander is a nice carry piece but in a good holster I can't really notice much difference between the Commander and the A1. For me a better carrry piece is the Hi-Power in 9MM just because of the weight but is a little light for Black bears. Right Martin says we can't carry in Canada so read IF i could carry those would be my thoughts. Ahem I prefer either the HIPower or A1 for IDPA but the Commander is just as comptitive - mine has issues with brass tossing and may have to have Dlask look at it next time I am down in Vancouver.

Also the dust cover on the Commander frame is shorter. I find the Commander length easier to shoot, but I don't know why.

I just bought a "Colt commandar" yesterday will pick it up after Christmas. This one is box stock with a satin finish. I will be sending it to SFX to have a beavertail and diffrent sights installed. I had to have one after shooting a friends.
