Figured I'd make a quick thread on my new colt competition 1911 (9mm yeah yeah yeah I know). I made this thread https://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/1610517-New-1911-time-choices-choices awhile back and this one was the most recommended.

My initial impressions of the gun were that it seems like a solid gun and well built as one would expect of a Colt, however there are things I noticed pretty quick. The rear sight is wide enough to drive a truck through which makes it fast on target but there's alot of air between the sides roughly 2/3's. The slide is fit nicely with just enough play to function reliably I'm not sure why people feel the need that everything needs to be super tight on 1911's the barrel locks up nice and tight however and is fit very well. The negative things I saw were the grip safety is really loose with alot of side to side play probably more then I've ever seen on a factory 1911 over $1k as well as the thumb safety has an 1/8" of overtravel past the fire position even though it snaps on and off very nicely. The mag release is stiff as hell I'm positive this will loosen up with time however is very stiff at the time and seating mags takes one hell of a smack. While one the topic of seating mags the notch on the front of the grip is sharp enough it drew blood when my hand came across it.

Took it too the range and put 300 rounds through (not alot I know) of every kind of ammo i could find and it ate it all without issue, I also didn't clean the gun from factory as it was well oiled I just made sure nothing was clogged in the barrel. I might as well run a torture test on it to see how many round before I start having issues. I was right about the rear sight it was fast to pick up however I'd like a smaller rear sight the front fiber optic is fantastic however. While talking about the sight the rear is adjustable for elevation and windage the windage adjustment is just loosening the mounting screw and drifting it i think they could have done skittle better one that. The sight were shooting about 4" low and 2"right out of the box (was best with 124grain and worse with 115,147) I went to adjust the rear sight and the screw turn however the poi did not change I have the rear sight a tap with a mag and it sprung so it would obviously stuck on something and wouldn't adjust. The gun it's self seems very accurate however I didn't really do any accuracy testing I just wanted to get some rounds through it the trigger is on the heavy side however I'm confident along with the mag release it'll get better with time.

I bought the gun for ~$1300 to my door and I think it's still better then the basic Springfield range officer however I'm not completely convinced it's worth the price tag and will defiantly need to get more round through it to make a better decision I don't hate it and I don't love it.

If you intend to shoot this gun competitively you will want the rear sight just the way it came. The whole point of having a wide gap on the rear sight is to speed up your ability to center the front sight with the rear. $1,300 inc tax is enough for the gun. You paid something for the rising pony.

Take Care

I agree, I have my rear sight opened up on all my competitive guns. I also only go with a fiber optic or colour on the front sight and leave the rear black. I find it way faster to pick up the front sight this way.

Does your pistol have serrations on the top of the slide. A nice feature on Colt's of old.
It's a nice pistol but for $1300 it should have some front checkering, and not need grip tape.

Nope no front grip checkering or on the slide, this is what I would call a quality entry level 1911. After I get a few thousand round through it in sending it to get flat topped and front strap checkered.
