Heya,

I've been dabling in the AR world in the last few weeks researching and reading for my first purchase. I managed to find 2 models I'm interested into (or maybe more if you can point some I didn't see). I'm looking for a "3 gun/competition ready" AR-15. Price range is 2k ish.

I had first found the Stag arms 3G which is sold by ArmsEast (BO right now). And then to my surprise I've found the Colt CRP-18 for a neglectable price difference but not much place seems to carry Colt competition rifles. I run guns seems to carry it but I've seen a lot of mixed review on their service (but that's another thread)... Does anyone know a dealer (supporting or not) who carries the Colt competition line of rifles?

The 3G might just be my best solution anyway; ArmsEast stands behind the product and it seems to have excellent support. Is the Colt better? It's a never ending debate on multiple forums :)

Thanks for your tips and inputs,

I'd go with the colt myself.
Better barrel profile and an adjustable gas block.
For roughly another $600 you could have armtac roll up an ar that would be superior to both though.
Go with a vltor upper/lower, noveske 16" lightweight ss barrel and a 13" NSr rail.
It'll be lighter than the offerings you mentioned, more accurate than the stag, and of higher quality fit/finish.

Call CRAFM and get a JP upper!
I picked one up last fall, 18", slipped it on my Windham Weaponry Lower, tap rack bang :) Fits perfect, ZERO wobble or play.
Here it is in its 1st competition! Cant wait to try out at a SR match!

OR if you want to save big $$, import it yourself or through IRunGuns or Prophet River.

The prices CRAFM sells their JP rifles is pass the point of being resonable. Sign on on JP's website, use the Rifle Builder tool and then compare to see for yourself.

I run the Stag 3G. Happy with it, good shooter. Didnt like the brake on the end though. It really does cause the barrel to dip down. Other then that it great.... dont worry about it :)

Rivalen,

I started on thread on this not too long ago and there wasn't much discussion on it. It's still a fairly new piece, but I still think that what you get for that price is pretty decent for a comp ready 3g rifle.

The said thread:http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/1011021-Colt-Competition-Pro-CRP-18

Damn, seems like I failed to find that thread with the search function. Not much came from it as you said... As advised, I'll look into Armtac build, JP and etc.

They are pricey but I got it on-sale for $1605 with the bolt carrier group, charging handle, adjustable gas block, heavy barrel 18" with heat sink and all BLACK
Usually they are selling them around $2100

On sale is a whole different ball game

BUT

It clearly proves what I said about their very high prices doesn't it?

Regular $2100 and you got it for $1600. That's $500.....and don't be fooled, they still made money on it even after you factor their import cost, shipping, txs and all.

OP - There's a complete JP rifles for sale for $1,900 in the EE at this moment. I would JUMP all over it if I hadn't just paid for my Les Baer and I'm on the wait list for the P7s coming in.

There's also a NIB upper in the EE that has been for sale for almost a year now. A really nice piece of kit, but still $200+ over what Ogradyrw paid for his upper.

All this said - you'll have guys like Saputin who'll tell you that you're stupid for dropping that kinda cash on an upper when you can build one yourself for way less. Like everything else, there's both ends of the spectrum on this subject.
