A very easy website to use to date your Colt.

It is interesting to see that a serial number is not a VIN. Not a unique number.

Lots of Colts have the same serial number.

Each model seems to have started with #1.

Tut tut Ganderite, how dare you speak the truth. Weren't you listening to Minister Rock all those years ago when he said registering our guns would be easy? Just fill in the card with the action, make, model, and serial number. Nothing can go wrong, and if your firearm ever gets stolen and recovered, the nice police officer will be able to bring it right back to you. The registry will be perfect ..... cough cough snort

I do not believe this statement is correct....others...?

41 Colts with the same serial number. Don't know how many Smiths, H&Rs and Mausers also have the same number.

Thanks for that.

Just looked up my Python. 1971. Nickel plated one that I picked up last year. Locks up very tight and the finish is great, with only one or two minor light scratches.

Before the registry I wrote a paper to them, explaining that serial numbers were not unique identifiers, and even used Colt as an example, that made 1911's in 3 factories, and each factory started numbering at #1.

Many years I called in to register a gun and the lady told me that there was already a gun registered with the same number. She then started to explain why this was. She was reading from my paper.

well done colt....fuuuk....sh&t sh0)w, enjoy receivership

There is a YT channel called Small Arms Solutions hosted by a guy who worked at Colt over the years, and has a lot to say about their management, decision-making style, product savvy, and corporate culture. The only thing keeping Colt alive is its name and trademark pony. He also has a lot of detailed knowledge of the AR design and its variations which makes the channel interesting.
