Colt Delta Elite share your stories

I just took the plunge on one yesterday, so I won't have it home until all the ATT and such comes through. It was a total impulse buy, but I had been thinking of a 1911 in 10mm for a little while; so it was just because I saw one behind the glass I had to go for it. I'll update with a range report as time allows. It was nice that the store also had 5 boxes of Hornady 10mm XTP to accompany the piece :)

Stainless or blued??

How much after taxes?

Wheres the trojan made???

IMHO I would rather have the delta.

Thats a good price on the colt.
STI's build quality is much better than Colt's.

My only concern would be the Trojan's cast frame. It's strong enough to handle .45, .40, .38 Super, and 9mm, but full power 10mm loads are in a totally different category.

Good point... Wasn't aware it was a cast frame. I'm positive Gunnar will help me out if there are any issues.

And really, a cracked frame just means you are super cool for shooting the monster known as the 10mm auto. :)

Kimber also chambers their Stainless Target II in 10mm (or at least used too) and IIRC their frames are forged.

I had an earlier Delta Elite in 10 mm (Blued). Slide to frame for was not the equivalent of what STI does today. Frame cracked and I sold the parts. I owned many Colt 1911 and no matter what, they are not coming close to the fit of a Kimber or a gun like a STI /2011.

Maybe off topic a bit..the new 2010/2011 Colt do not offer the same features found on a Kimber ( to name this one) - front strap checkering to name the obvious. Unless you are a collector - I see no reason to own a Colt. There is much better choice today.

Yeah, because everyone needs front strap checkering.....

Colts custom shop O package can hook you up anyways..

I have been dreaming of my next 10mm handgun it will be a

1911 design

6" stainless steel long slide with matching forward serrations

6" stainless steel match grade barrel

stainless steel bobtail tactical light mount frame with front strap checkering

VZ grips

tritium adjustable sights

etc etc

:D

Stainless, and it was under $1300 before taxes. To be honest I'm a bit hazy on it, but only about a $60 variance should cover my memory lapse. My S&W 1911 .45 is also stainless; so they'll make a handsome pair:)

I'm not too fond of the grips, so those will be the first thing to be customized.

You found a shop that had on in stock!? I thought these were pretty rare and most that made it to Canada were already spoken for (waitlist).

I haven't seen anyone advertising them let alone holding them in inventory. I would have expected a wait.

Paid for the rest today, it was $1299 before the gouge and screw tax. Found some black Houge grips for it as well elsewhere in town; though I ordered some tan ones too

The shop that had it is pretty old school, and does not have any inventory listed online at all; so in that manner it makes pleasant surprises easier to come by, as nobody half way across the country can mouse-click as theirs before you see it in the flesh. I bought all the 10mm Hornady they had,'but left the aluminum cased Blaser 200 grain fmj on their shelf. The shop was Pro-Line Shooters in Calgary.
