What can you tell me about this beauty? It says on it,

Series 80 Colt MK IV, Gold Cup National Match
The wood grips say Gunsite

I am just curious to know a little bit more about this particular model. It will be handed down to my daughter when I expire.

I understand the Series 80 are less desirable than say a Series 70. This has something to do with the trigger assembly, (and maybe something else)?

How would you suggest I clean up the fingerprint smudges without wearing out the blueing too much? I wiped it with CLP but they remain. Hopefully my photo links work. :D

The Gunsite grips are not original to this pistol and are from the Colt Gunsite edition.

Agreed. I remember seeing a different model of 1911 that came with similar looking gunsite grips originally. I read it on a Colt page somewhere. I wonder, (or forget), if those grips were ever available as stand alone replacements for purchase?

Does anyone want to comment on the "National Match" designation? It must make it a bit different than one not saying "National Match". The feedramp looks pretty smooth, some beveling. Does anyone have a favorite Colt page to recommend? I would like to read up on them again. :wave:
 
Try m1911.org, more info than you can absorb in a lifetime. National Match is a "target" version that's been produced by Colt for years. When they were introduced, the basic 1911 was much the same as a GI gun with better fit and finish the 'NM' had better trigger, tighter fitting and adjustable sights.
