Here is a silly question.

I own a CGC, I am currently trying to sell it here on the EE and locally (pics up at local ranges and what not)

I took it to the local g-show that is in town (just yesterday) to try and "pawn" it off at a couple of dealers.

To say they "lowballed" me is a bit of an understatement!

Now according to them a Used Colt Gold Cup is only worth 85% of what their US wholesale Value is....... ie: if from their catalouge a colt is woth $500usd new they will only give me 85% of that so $425 cdn..... Does that seem a little off to you guys?

Needless to say I am trying to sell this Colt, but I don't want to give it away, but to sell it for the $925 I was offered seems a little crazy, I'll just keep it at that price, it's half what I paid in the first place when I got it 6 months ago.

Now Obviously I am asking too much for my Colt, (currently asking $1750).... What should I be asking for it..... It's soon time to BTT my add, I may as well drop the price at the same time.......

I have seen your ad in the EE. Your gun is tough to find and I think there are Colt collectors out there who might be interested. Your ad just hasn't been seen by Mr. Right. From my experience ( only my opinion ) I think your asking price is too high. However I'm surprised that you were REALLY lowballed by a couple of dealers. Sales seem sluggish right now, especially for high end pieces.Keep the ad running and it will eventually sell-- for the right price. In my opinion a realistic asking price for your gun would be in the $1200.00 range.

Seems like a fair price. I remember seeing them listed brand new for $1250 plus tax and shipping from one of our sponsors listed above earlier this year.

$1200...... Thats worse depreciaton % wise that a new car..... I paid just over $1900+tax, 6 months ago..... and that was after I haggled with the dealer......

Well I guess I am asking too much anyway you look at it.

To be honest I can't see selling it for less than $1300. By some strange coincidence $1300 is what I need to Net to make my "goal" for the next project......

IMO the actual market price - depend of course on the wear and rounds mileage - could be in the 1200-1400 range
keep it on EE forums till you'll find the right buyer!

Did you read the threads where they wrote that dealers were selling them for $1250? Why would you expect someone to give you more money then they can buy a new one for? Looks to me like you overpaid at your dealer in the first place, and you're now trying to recoup the loss on that bad decision. Don't get me wrong, they are a nice gun, and worth 1k to $1200 in Canada, but just because you overpay doesn't mean someone else will too. Sorry. - dan

couple months ago I saw a Colt gold cup with the gold inlay on it , trigger, hammer, safety,slide release were all gold plated. He was asking 950$. I did not had my PAL at this time for restricted.
gun was sold within a week

If you paid $1900+ new at the dealer, then I would say you were 'had'. I am sorry and no offence intended. 17th Edition Blue Book lists this as $992US MSRP and I doubt if prices increased that much since 17th Ed.

Yes $1200 sounds about right as a 'good'/'fair' deal on EE. If your gun is indeed 6mo old and you barely have around 1000 rounds through it and it's close to mint, I can see you going higher on the right buyer but not by much. You will have to take the hit from overpaying the dealer.

Now as far as the guys low-balling you at around $400-$500, just ignore them (dealer or not). These guys are too cheap to ever buy anything worthwhile for themselves. They just want to rob you and brag about how they stole a new Colt Trophy for next to nothing to thier pals at the range (sorry to the guys who make this low-ball offer but it's unfortunately true in my opinion).

Worst case is if you cannot sell it at a your reasonable price then just keep it! :). It's a great pistol, enjoy it.

A NIB Colt Gold Cup Stainless is advertised for $1050 US at the Impact Guns website. Asking over $1700 CDN for a used one is nuts.

I just bought a NIB Hard Chrome Colt Special Combat Government .45 for $1900 CDN. It sells for $1635 US at Impact Guns, so that is probably a fair markup by the Canadian dealer.
 
Hey there, I had the gold inlay Gold Cup for sale on EE... It's been for sale for a few months. First at $1400, a few weeks later at $1300, again at $1200...$1100 and so on. I had a ''last price drop'' @$950 a few weeks ago and ''finally'' sold it. The right buyer showed up and wanted a piece like that so he bought it off at my asking price.

Mind you that this pistol was custom made from Colt's custom shop in the early 90's and a ''supposed'' limited run of 500 units. I sold the pistol for $500 less then what I originally paid two years ago and I had to throw a other 7 rounds original colt 7 rounds mag to satisfy the new owner. I bought it used but in like new cond. Total round count on it was barely 300-400 rounds and I shot exactly 28 rounds with it (4 full 7 rounds magazines). So FWIW I think the prices on those pieces is really what the potential buyer really want's to pay for the exclusivity of owning such a fine pistol.

Just my .02

Hope you find the right buyer faster then I did!!
