That's a great test target, the latest one M45A1 roll marked is like that. The usmc group is not as good but who knows different shooters? That special combat is a real beauty .
Here's mine....I think this is the first M45A1 CQBP to have entered the country, it's an early serial number.
With Colt 01911 WWI in Carbonia blue & 01911A1 WWII Reproduction pistols;
Some of the M45A1 roll-marked pistols in blue Colt clamshell boxes will have a matte / sandblasted finish on the barrel hood as seen below and is the same config with the issued M45A1s. These are production runs and parts are not fitted for interchageability requirements as specified by USMC.
As opposed to those assembled in Colt Custom Shop that came with pelican case, the barrel hood is shiny and barrel is fitted with the slide's barrel lugs making the pistol with much tighter tolerances and accuracy is even better.
Was just lucky I was able to snag one up and paid couple hundreds more than MSRP when the first batch went out Feb. '13.
Hope live4therut would post a range report in one of his CQBPs.
Got home and got lucky both are custom shop guns with the 1070CQB designate code & 194 guns apart. Here are the test targets interesting that they used different ammo
M45A1 marked with 185gr BJHP
USMC marked with 230gr match ball
Going to get out this weekend and see what my hands are capable with
Huh forgot about posting my range results, sorry guys & gals. They are very few in Canada that I've observed, but I'm sure there's a few around. Also be on the look out for the different variants.
1070CQB is custom shop gun, hand fitted and tuned, pelican case with Otis cleaning kit, 2 wilson combat mags and test target. This will cost you 3k and beyond depending on roll mark. M45A1 are possible to find for just north of the 3k mark, good luck finding a usmc marked one.
1070M45 is production gun all parts interchangeable, blue clam shell box and 2 wilson mags. There's one in the ee for 3k, looking on GB it would be hard to import a production gun under 2.5k
Got my M45A1 out for a test drive, warmed up with it and here's my best 2 mags (14) shot group at the 25yard mark, used s&b 230 grain, what's to say here it's a 1911 and a dream to shoot.
Nice shooting there. Still can't bring myself to fire mind so I'll have to live vicariously through you. Did you get a chance for any quicker double taps, if so how did it handle?
Johnny I did do a few rapid fire mag dumps, Novaks were nice for follow up shots, I love this trigger! Rivals any custom shop gun that I've owned (wilson and NHC). I wasn't sure if it was money well spent but I have no doubts now. I never thought I'd say it but the trp operator got bumped from the top spot shooter in my safe.
Thanks for the range report Patrick. There's one right now at gunbroker, it's a production gun (in Colt blue clamshell box) but it's USMC roll-marked slide, and matt/unpolished barrel hood. S/N #0011EGA. It's 5k USD though. If I have just the money, I won't pass on it. It's the very same config of the issued M45A1.
