Hey there friends. Need a little help here. A friend acquired a colt revolver through his fathers estate. Pistols aren't my area of expertise. I haven't seen it, but he told me about some markings. DA 38, which I'm sure means double action and 38 caliber. It also has 1895 on the barrel. There's a couple other markings I have written down (not in front of me at the moment). Could anyone enlighten me as to the approximate age and value of the piece? It would be much appreciated.

It's a model 1892, Colt New Army / Navy, in 38 LC. Value depends on condition of the gun mechanically, and especially the condition and originality of the finish. Hard to judge it otherwise, but I'd guess an excellent condition example would fetch 1200 plus. A refinished, beat up gun may go in the range of $250-$300 if it works. If it's a military model, the price may change. The military model will have a 6" barrel, inspector initials on the frame, and military markings on the butt.
As for age, run the serial number on the Colt website, the serial number is located on the butt of the gun, 5 or 6 digits spread over 2 lines. Your gun was probably made between 1895 and 1905.
