Finally had some time to do a 100 yard ammo test to find out what MY IUR setup likes and might give a few of us what ammo to try out or stock up on. The next test I will do is a 5 shot 5 round proper grouping ( only top 3) to see if I can keep this setup under 1moa steady.
I did a CQB test at 30 yards. Take a look to see the difference.

Hope this helps a few of us on CGN !!!!!!

Colt IUR with Norc lower 9x19x44 Vortex bipod with a rear bag.
I just sighted in the scope with 30 rounds before the test.
No rest No cleaning
30 sec to shoot 5 rounds
Only cool down is loading 5 new rounds into the mag

I circled some with 4 rounds. I will be doing a 5 shot 5 round with these next time just in case the 5 round was a flyer or my trigger etc....

I'm on the same set up, IUR/Norc lower but using a red dot. I've found the Norc bulk non consistent like you did, Win white box pretty good, PMC 55gpretty good, IMI pretty good, funny enough best result I had was MFS 62g 1.5 moa. Keep in mind my red dot isn't as precise as a magnified optic. So could just be dumb luck I managed that.

Great presentation and test.

What do most people expect from their 5.56? And what do they mostly buy it for? Certainly not precision, right?

Even Norinco's awful 4.46MOA is still only about 22" at 500 yards which might be good enough for 'yotes, if my math is right.

I have a 1-4 and could not get a honerable group. Lol. Your Red dot was good.

My eyes are still fairly good, it's a 2 Moa red dot. Basically pick a spot and put it there each time, results were good. Could have been dumb luck but that's how it played out.

Not to hijack OP post but I did something similar few years ago with a buddies rifle.

Colt M4 - Early 2000s model.
Barrel 14.5 in. (36.83 cm)
100m - 10 round groups - off a backpack.

Federal gmm 69 and Hor VMax 53g* had best results. Surprisingly Black Hill ammo performed crappy.**

*I believe this would be the winner if i didn't pull 2 rounds.
**I blame the shooter! :p

Trust..... like a used car salesman.... lol

No matter what barrel in the world you have every ammo will have a different POA POI.... this test provides information to people who might what to buy a IUR for $1800 and have no idea if it can shoot 1MOA..... And it does, for me with FIOCCHI... The next test will be with TAP, FGMM 77 SMK and a few more.... Then I will bring it out to 300yrds... lol

I am just not impressed by the barrel. That is all. Why people take it so personal...

This test tells me that cheap ammo shoot like cheap ammo. As for the barrel.... many barrels will do better with the same ammo.

Now as for the salesman comment... lol

Either your Norc ammo was bad or I got a few faerie batches of good ones because I usually am shooting 1.5-2.5" groups with it at about the same distance. With both the type 97 and AR

I've never known it to be that bad o_O

i'm guessing that some of that ammo uses extruded and some uses spherical powders - shooting back to back without patching the bore has been fairly well known to cause some skewed accuracy results during testing, so take that fwiw.

I think that is par for the course with the norc ammo. One spam can to the next the consistency for accuracy varies widely. Last summer had a can that mostly shot 2.5 Moa out of my spikes tactical ar15. This summer different can is shooting 4.5 moa. About 3moa out of my tavor though....

With the amount of rounds fired, it does not make a big difference, 1st brand was 3in 4th was .8.... I will be picking the top 3 and doing a slowing down test and cleaning after each brand soon to try and tighten up the groups.
