I finally took my IUR to the range. But I was very disappointed with its accuracy. I was shooting American eagle 55gr and a few MFS 55 grain. I was getting around a 1 1/2" group at 50 yards with 5 shots
I know the 1 in7 twist is not the best for that weight. But I didn't expect it to be that bad. I was shooting from a front rest and rear bag. I tried it at 25 yards and it put 3 shots practically through the same hole

My question is what weight is the best for this rifle? It will be primarily be used for 3 gun out to 200 yards

Colt IUR with enhanced lower. Vortex strike eagle 1-6. On a vortex cantiver mount.
 
For my SA 20 1:7 twist I'm using 69 gr sierras with great results out to 300 m with 25 grs of Varget . Because of current pricing I will be switching over to Hornady 68 gr HPBT which I'm sure I'll get good results from too.

There's nothing wrong with 55 grain ammunition and a 1:7 twist, although those aren't premium brands. Better ammo will probably give better results. I always had good luck with Lapua 69 grain ammo.

Will that fit in an AR magazine?
 
Are you loading it for an AR . The reason I ask is , I'm using 69 SMKs with 25grs of Varget and it's almost compressing . So with a 80 gr bullet wouldn't you be compressing the load to achieve mag length ?

Yup...loading for an AR. With Hornady 68 BTHP and 25.5 grains of Varget I'm compressing the load as well. An 80.5 grain Berger while not a VLD is still long and pointy so it's hard to believe that it can be loaded mag length with sufficient powder load (24 grains or so).

I think you need to try a variety of ammo-types - different brands and bullet weights. Even among the same type of rifles, I've found that each seems to prefer something slightly different. I've tested M305s from the same production year and one shot well with bulk Norinco 7.62 while the other other preferred Hornady 168 Match.

At a minimum, AE 223 and MFS would not be what I would expect to provide the best accuracy even though you sometimes get surprises. Perhaps try Hornady 75 BTHP Match or Black Hills 68 grain Heavy Match if you can find any of this. Barring that try some PMC although it isn't match grade.
 
The AE and MFS really are just plinking ammo, although you will still ring a 12 inch gong at 300m every time, I never find it consistent for any kind of accuracy testing. 25m and 50m shots can give you some deceptively optimistic holes and groups. I suggest buying a couple brands of previously mentioned good stuff, go to the range on a nice work day when its empty and take your time.
