Hey Guys, I have a lower receiver with small size trigger pins. I found a good deal on a drop in trigger I want but it is the Colt large diameter, can I just simply open up the holes to the correct diameter and use that trigger or are there other differences? I’ve been working in the metal cutting industry over 20 years, opening the holes to a accurate dimension will not be an issue. I’m just curious if the location is the same or if there are any other differences between the two ?

most hammer/trigger pins are .155". The SAO Colt Sporter pins were .170". The tolerance between the hammer and trigger pin hole location is critical for function of the trigger mech and to ensure non-firing on SAFE and to avoid burst firing or light strikes. Most armourers would not modify a lower for that reason.

If I am not mistaken the locations themselves are different vs "mil spec" as well. Just one of many modifications Colt made to ensure that military fire control components couldn't be interchanged

The hammer and trigger pin holes were in the same locations, just oversized. Colt's made numerous changes to try to avoid bans. These changes were bigger hammer and trigger pins, several versions of SAO triggers, hammers as well as changes to the receiver to prevent fitting auto-sear cut uppers or fitting auto sears. But the holes were always in the same place.

I've never heard that the locations were any different, but enlarging those holes is going to cut away the anodizing, leaving steel parts rotating on bare aluminum. This is a recipe for a short receiver life. I can't imagine why you would even consider it.

Ok ok....you guys convinced me.....lol. I just saw a good deal and didn’t want to let .020” stand in the way. Been cutting steel for 20 years and it seems like nothing. I guess I’ll do it the normal way and get a proper trigger. Thanks guys
