the lowers are the same, so is the upper for that matter.... the only difference is the barrel, sparrow had onewhere he installed the correct colt manufactured barrel, should bepic's here somewhere.

The lowers are not the same. The uppers are the same with the exception of the barrel length and both should have "M4" stamped above the gas tube.

Here is a Colt 6921 Lower:

And a Colt 6920:

I actually replaced my entire top end with a Colt M4 Upper. In my conversations with several SMEs, early 6921s were shipped with 6920 lowers though I have never confirmed this. I did see a couple of special order guns with skinny barrels, Lazysnake had one as I recall? . My conversion to a 14.5" upper was a total mistake, anyone considering this should take in to account that you cannot take the M4 upper to the US and the 16.1" barrel does well to 500m but the 14.5" requires a lot more user input at that distance.

For the amount of trouble and cost, you could probably find an upper with a much better barrel for the same effort.

Agreed, however a Colt M4 is a very easy gun own. Not only is quality very high, there a high degree of end-user confidence in knowing that there have been a number of destructive tests done and a defined set of specs. maintained throughout the production process...there is also a pride of ownership and the obvious resale value, my Colt ran me $1400.00 at Hunter's Sporting Goods, it is worth way more now. For the price though an LMT or Special run Stag would likely serve you the same or better given the savings, and for specific target uses one of the many custom barrel offering are far away more accurate...that big Colt chamber is not exactly "match grade". Still my 6920/921 hybrid is a no sell gun, it runs perfectly and has done 3 Service matches and 5 day patrol rifle course without a single hiccup this year alone.

^^ You would trade two oranges for another orange.

LMT is on par with Colt.

It's not because it's "the real deal" that it's better than everything else. Your LMT has exactly the same specs. There are few AR-15 companies that produce an AR with mil-spec Colt quality, and LMT is one of them.

Well my LMTs are not really the same.

  • no parkerizing under FSB
  • no F marked FSB
  • no taper pins
  • no M4 marked Upper Receiver
  • grey dry film lube crap that comes off so easy it is disgusting. My hands were black after not letting my hands completely dry from hand sanitizer (Purell) and touching the extension
  • ... and says LMT all over the place as opposed to Colt ;)

I guess it's all about Kool-Aid as mentioned.

That's too funny, I think LMT makes the nicest receiver extension out of all of them ...my guns all sport the LMT tube now. Man, you got it bad dude, just buy one of the newer 6920s with standard size FCG pins and wait until you find a Colt M4 barrel. They are out there, you just have to network...I recently replaced mine ( had a bulge in it) with a new one, you'd be surprised what some guys have lying around.

Here is what it looks like underneath that gray stuff. I had to wipe it all off b/c the hand marks made it look kinda ###. Perhaps I should put it back (if even possible) so it is easily identified as an LMT (at least the receiver extension).

What is with the humps on the LMT tubes though near the threads? One side is higher, and the other side lower. I don't recall my old 6920 being that way.

I like the LMT because of all the so called "milspec" tubes, the Sopmod stock and the Gen 1 M4 stock has the least amount of play with the LMT tube .

I hate the LMT tube, it is too tight. I like the tube a bit loose, so it can be manipulated quickly.

I used to drink the Kool-Aid. Then I woke up and realized I'd spent thousands of dollars just to make everything say "Colt" and "M4". After this revelation, I promptly tore apart my collection and sold everything but one lonely 6920 barrel. That is all the Colt that remains on my carbine to this day. Never looked back.
