I don't have pics at the moment - so bear with my description.
I picked up a Colt model 1877 over the weekend - 38 caliber, 4.5" barrel. Serial number is in the 148000 range, so I'm guessing 1905-1907? It's been reblued at some point in the past. No pitting, although it does have one small frosted area (smaller than a dime, and not deep) in the bore - rest of the bore is bright and shiny. Looks up tight, double action and single action both work without a hiccup. "Hard rubber" grips are in excellent shape, and all serial numbers are matching. Even came with a vintage engraved black leather holster.
Could someone give me a ballpark value based on this condition? I plan on keeping and shooting it - just wondering if I paid a fair price.

Ive seen the 38 Colt lightings go for $600 US and UP in the US but alot are Antiques down there.
Id say being as its Not a Antique but still a Colt lightning at least $400 or more in Canada.
Tho i cant remember seeing one for sale here ever.

The 41 cal thunderers go for a good buck up here cause alot are perscribed antique. I think ser #78000 is the cut off Ser # on the 41s but it could be higher.

In that condition, your gun could easily see around $1500 USD. In Canada that's another story, if it was mine I would'nt let it go for less than $1000.
Does it have the London address on the barrel? If so even more!
From "The Book of Colt Firearms" the serial number 148500 was the start of the 1904 run. A quote from the same "Gunsmiths have cursed the Lightning and Thunderer 1877 models as virtually unrepairable. Reassembly was a nightmare, and a collector who owns a broken specimen might best forget about ever having it repaired." Careful if you open it up.

I had a antique colt Thunder in 41 long colt and i Made a hand spring for it.
No easy task as its like a double pronged Spring.
But i didnt think the gun was that hard to work on.
I got mine working perfect.
They do break fairly easy tho.
Id have to agree on the $1000 value now ive seen the gun and holster.
Thats a nice looking Revolver to be sure.

So I guess $750 was a decent price.
The serial number is a couple hundred below 148500, so it must be 1903.
