Ran into a Colt lightweight Commander 45ACP / Aluminum frame that is for sale. Looks like its had very few if any rounds through it. Cosmeticaly flawless in appearance.
I haven't found much information or reviews on the pistol, So thats what I'm looking for any information good or bad. Better to make an informed decision rather than go with my buy it now and worry about later attitude.;)

Lightweight Commanders are good guns, depending on age it may need a trigger job and a ramp and throat polish. Life expectancy is slightly shorter in aluminum frame 45's but for most shooters the difference is so far down the road you'll never get there. Definitely a cool gun.

Aluminum frame, ergo lighter pistol, designed for carry.

For shooting I prefer the "all steel" Combat Commander.

If you can get it for a decent price it is still worth getting, though.

Take it apart and make sure it was not ####ed with. I bought a used Commander that looked great. Turned out "Dremel Dave" went at it and screwed the ramp angle, and wrecked the throat of the barrel, and it had a broken ejector. Not to mention slide cut at the breech was messed with too. Needed to have a new ramped barrel put in and the frame cut to accept same. Thanks Gunnar at Armco for getting it up and running again. I always loved this model of Colt, just not the problems this particular one came with.

Colt's CLW has been my primary 45 for the last 25 yrs. I prefer full 5 in Govmt's for shooting but if I had only one that would be a Lightweight Commander. Best all around 45 in my book !!

Just watch the frame wear where the back of the recoil spg guide sits if you use it for intensive shooting.

Here's my ''oldie'' that has been with me last 25....

I'd buy an all steel Combat Commander rather than a regular lightweight Commander.

Like NAA said, the lightweight Commander is for carrying, Steel Combat Commander for shooting. Since we don't have CCW here...what's the point of owning a lightweight. You may not even like its enhanced recoil.

If you already have a Combat Com or regular 5" Governments, and only adding the lightweight for variety or whatever reason, I guess your entitled to that choice.

I doubt if you will like shooting the lightweight on a regular basis.
