Colt M4??

just checking in, filtering through the bs.

Here is your update:

1. Airsoft company makes kick ass AR looking rifle in .22 caliber. Finally a cheap AR looking rifle that shoots cheap .22 ammo. Take it to the range, take it hunting, take it anywhere guns can be taken without fear of tazing or bootphucking. Company totally confident all the free world will have no problem allowing their citizens to buy it and shoot it. So far, they are right. (except for Canada)

2. Retailers across the country jump on this new awesome product and 16 weeks in advance place ads up on their website toting a decently priced AR looking rifle will come into the country sometime in June (now) for all of us GUNNUTS to buy in the non-restricted format.

3. RCMP sees the brochure for the gun. Without even having a sample item in their hands they classify it as "restricted."

4. We all instantly have massive flashbacks of all the other .22 caliber Evil Looking Guns that tried to come into the country before non-restricted that end up coming in restricted or prohibited. Half of us pass out completley from having T97 and VZ58s seizures at the same time.

5. The R22's, Krinkers, and other 10/22 converts go gopher hunting on the weekend with their persons and wave to the M4 .22's from far away across the ocean.

There, you've now been updated.

In my opinion it is worthless if restricted unless it will retail for under $500.00. I know, I know, wishful thinking.
If it is restricted I doubt that anyone will be able to bring it in for a good price and still make a profit. There's just no market for a restricted .22 that costs the same as a complete .22 upper.

that was good for a chuckle, but yet, I'm sad now :(

They would have seen it at the IWA in Nurnberg, and the Shot Show, and the NRA show. The FRT section sends members to all of these shows, and it is where they get much of their advance FRT info from.

If the manufacturer says this is an AR15, it is hard to see how the RCMP will not say it is an AR15 variant.

Not to be negative, I'd love to sell and own a non-restricted .22 AR15 as much as anyone, but I wouldn't bet $1 that these will wind up non-restricted.

Also, as to these being in the country, when a new non-FRT numbered firearm comes in, my experience is that that the initial import certificate will be made with the end user being the FRT section, RCMP, Ottawa, and that is where the firearm goes for evaluation and classification. Importers cannot hold non-registered firearms in stock for more than 30 days. With no FRT, there is no registration.

All the best,
DT

I got a chance to check out the umarex M4 in Vegas last week, and I'm really disappointed. If you are expecting this to be a cheap training rifle then you will be sadly mistaken. The overall weight/feel was ok but operating the charging handle, mag release, selector etc. felt really fragile and junky. I was pretty impressed by the GSGs though, those didn't seem too bad at all.

Krinker Part Deux came in the mail yesterday. Now I have two Krinkers, both different styles, one Rhineland R22 and ten 25/22 magazines to shoot through them. All non-restricted and ready to hunt with. With this new news on their performance and the fact that they haven't even been classified and will most likely come in restricted which makes them either a safe queen or range shooter and finally because of the fact they are not here as the retailers indicated when we'd see them to buy, for now I am moving on.

I am disappointed at the retailers "jumping the gun" so to speak on these rifles. Sixteen weeks have passed, (as of the 26th) no sample in the country, no FRT number and "June" was supposed to be the month of delivery. If the retailers want to spark a little animosity in their customers, this is the best way to go. This isn't even a case of the RCMP/CFC changing their minds like they did with the T97's and vz58s. The retailers should have waited until there was final confirmation and "product en-route" before announcing it to the general public. So far all I have seen is an attempt to gauge interest on a product that no one really intended to bring in in the first place, maybe because not enough people showed interest and the retailers are "waiting out" the market to tell them when to get the ball rolling. More concrete facts and less hype should have been the message of the day.

I give these guns coming in Q2 2010 and restricted. If anyone wants to prove me wrong or dispel my estimations I am all ears.

Time to invest in a .22 pistol instead. At least there is no misgivings as to where I can and cannot shoot it.

I have been watching for the arrival of a few different makes of .22 AR15 like models that are true .22 from the ground up as opposed to dicey conversions as they have been brougt up in a few mags here and there...
Looks like we are still playing the waiting game.

This is why they never say when they will be ready or how much. Things change.

Then the consumer is upset when it doesn't happen or the price is higher than originally posted.

I should say "some"

Without pointing fingers at specific retailers because I am sure there is some BS rule that doing so would be anti-CGN there were "retailers" that specifically indicated the month they were coming in and the fact they were coming in "non-restricted." No "retailer" posted a price. To be honest I don't think people gave a crap on how much they were which is why people (like me) will pay top dollar for an XCR or AR180B so we can take it hunting or shoot steel in the gravel pits without concerns of arrests or tazering. The fact is right now there is no FRT # and there is "speculation" that there isn't even a sample in Canada for the RCMP to look over that they were determined to be "restricted" off a paper brochure.

Some of these retailers have been in business for decades and you'd think that after "decades" of BS importing firearms lessons would be learned and there wouldn't be presumptions on how rulings and issues would end up turning out without the product physically in their hands. And even that doesn't mean anything either. (T97 and vz58s) If a retailer is saying 16 weeks prior to the firearm coming out it is "non-restricted" and "scheduled for June" you'd presume the process to get to this conclusion began 16 weeks prior to that. Telling your potential buying audience 5 days from the end of the month you told them the firearm would be in "no new news on this rifle" would sour come people in their future buying decisions. I am presuming then these retailers are confident that pissing off potential customers won't hurt their business that much and them giving out statements not backed up with any concrete data doesn't concern them or their reputation of giving reliable data on other product in the future. Bottom line these retailers should have come clean in February and said "Colt Umarex .22 rimfire rifle. Delivery and classification TBA no samples in the country or FRT #'s issued yet" instead of "Colt Umarex .22 rimfire rifle, non-restricted. June or summer delivery."

So they classified a rifle based on a sale's brochure? Why am I not surprised.

Well maybe because the same words they use in the brochure are the same ones that are banned here?

Dont blame the RCMP for that one. Blame the marketing and legal people that didn't evaluate the Canadian market and laws properly.

Can anyone here actually provide proof via FRT that this rifle is now listed as restricted? I've heard all kinds of inuendo and speulation but little in the way of fact.

Some are saying its classification has yet to be determined while others are suggesting otherwise.

There is nothing in the FRT on this rifle as of today. That's a fact.

I've already given everyone the official news straight from the horse's mouth, along with contact numbers for confirmation...

i am sorry but somme of you guys need to learn to let the professional work.

Only outfit like TSE, questar and wolverine did get frt number for cool gun in our favour.

The morons that call the CFC before gun are in the contry to ask , demand and insult officers inteligence ARE by FAR our worst ennemy but they are impossible to control and retailer should know better and keep everything under the radar before they have the goods in hands
