What is the best place in Canada to get a 5 or 6 inch barrel made and installed on a Colt Model 357 (blue) so it can be converted from Prohib to Restricted? Current barrel is 4 inches so prohib and I don't have a prohib licence. I want to get a 5 or 6 inch barrel so I can acquire it. Certain Python barrels may fit but very expensive.

Thank you

The cost will probably exceed the value of the finished gun, unless this means something to you by the time you buy a barrel and have it installed you could have bought a decent 357.

I have the same gun, Great pistol, in the next few days ,I could check the thread pitch and diam as I have a python barrel off, and a K and L frame barrel , But they are all packed for a show this week end , and I don't know how deep I would have to dig, so next week.
I have not measured the colt barrel. The Python and 357barrel should be the same size.
Maybe some here will know already, Barrel, that is the problem, cost wise and finding one.
There are barrels in the US, but a importer has to import to a gunsmith.

Thank you. A Python barrel with 2 pins at the front sight will fit. Where the rib meets the frame there will be a V notch. Some say that needs to be filled in. There is a picture on the Colt Forum. I have a picture without text all over it but can't upload it. The Model 357 is an I Frame and I think the Python is the same. I think I am going to have to get one made if I want to acquire the firearm. There is a place in the Lower Mainland but I was hoping to hear some other suggestions from people who have had a barrel made for a pistol. Would appreciate hearing what you find next week when you get back from the show. Thank you again.

An S&W barrel can be made to fit. They have the same threads. Finding someone who you trust with such a fine revolver as a Colt 3-5-7 to do that work in Canada is another story...

*** Edit - it appears I may have been wrong in this comment as per Marshall however the truth may be more detailed as there are examples of guns that have been fitted with each other’s barrels out there.

Thank you. Another possibility. I have heard of a Python Barrel on an S&W but not the reverse. And a Python barrel will fit, but hard to find. Will look into this. I have been hoping since Colt is releasing new models that there may again be a new source of Colt Barrels

O.K. I check a python barrel and a k frame barrel and a L frame barrel, no way they are the same thread. The K and L frame , same TPI, but different diameter, Colt is courser thread

I had a guy have a s-w 66 4in. sleeved with a 1/4 in or maybe 1/2 in extension on the front, SS of course, looked like crap, all drilled out and a liner installed, full length.
Worked for a while , till he , or his brother loaded up 357mag. and the forcing cone split. was O.K. with 38 sp.
I think if a gunsmith does that, he should stop the sleeve / liner just a head of the cone, so you have full sized steel on end of the barrel.
the steel left after the hole is drilled for the liner is real thin, and so is the liner, so no strength at the cone.
The fellow that did it is retired and took him about 2 yrs to get it done.
I don't have the shop now, but that is one thing to think about.
Who ever does it has to have a 12-6 licence and the paper work has to be sent in with lots of pictures.
If you want I can measure the colt barrel again, the smith was 36 tpi if I remember, I just compared the colt and way different, and yes, 357 model and python are the same frame, so should be the same thread. I don't have a 357 model barrel out and not going to take mine out. but do have the python barrel out .

The 357 is a simple barrel, would not be that hard to fit one, You could even stamp the roll mark/ model in with some time and right punch.

Maybe try Bits of Pieces?

Epps also has their manufacturing license. Heron Arms does lots of barrels but mostly long rifles.
