Colt Model 357 Magnum Value

Does anyone have one of these? Anyone able to tell me the going rate of one of these? From what I read they are similar in functionality to the Python but thinking this may be a cheaper alternative if I can find one.
 
I got lucky and found one in 12/6 for about $400 (+/- cant recall exactly) in very good condition except for some holster wear on one side of the barrel near the muzzle. They are a nicely made pistol and can shoot very well - single and DA is excellent. But as it lacks the shroud -- it is not as 'pretty' as a Python imo. Too bad as it will have to do for me as I wont put out the cash for a Python. Of course it's a PITA repeatedly telling people what model it is: It's a "Colt .357" "yes, yes....BUT what MODEL is it?!"
 
12.6 pistols are worth a fraction of restricted versions... you're fortunate to have 12.6.

I have a beautiful Colt .357 my F-I-L gave me. Smooth action and tight lockup!
 
I figure if I haven't had the pleasure of holding a Python or even seeing one up close then I won't even know what I am missing! How would it compare to a smith and Wesson 586? Similar performance and quality?

I think there are lots of comparisons on line between the Python and the 586 ... the 357 will be about the same as the Python (without the ###y lug) ... they are both (586 and Python) pistols that will shoot as well as the person pulling the trigger can shoot. I think the quality of fit and finish might be better on an older Colt compared to a new Smith... maybe. I have a couple of Colts including a DS and a couple of S&W including a Lew Horton 624 3" ... I like them all very much

I notice that 12/6's are creeping up in price though for some reason. Have people figured out how to get them to the US?
