Thanks everyone for the input and sharing of knowledge and information. I'm sad to see it go but feel good knowing it's found a home where it will be much appreciated.
Happy you got your price and congrats to the purchaser. As I mentioned earlier, the trigger on mine matches any Python I have and quite a scarce find especially with box.
These old colts are absolute gems and the few that I’ve had shoot lights out. On top of that I think they are reasonably priced compared to the snake guns and shoot just as well or better which makes them much easier to bring to the range on a consistent basis without having to worry about de-valuing the gun. On top of that I have never owned a Smith and Wesson that didn’t need an action job to smooth it out and I’ve owned a lot from the 50’s on. On the other hand the mid 50’s Colts that I’ve owned have either all been tuned before I got them or were silky smooth right from the factory (I suspect that’s how they left the factory).
Thanks Harry C, just snoopy.
My 4 in , I bought as it was cheap and some money to be made, but I like it so much, I don't think I will show it, It is about the same feel as my last python, just not the glamor.
I have a pre-war Colt Official Police that has a great single action! Just as good as one of my Pythons. These old Colt revolvers that have the same lockwork as the Python are beautiful revolvers that harken back to a time where quality was paramount. The fact that they can still be had for around $1K is great considering there simply isn’t anymore being made unlike Smiths. The Colt production numbers have alaways been less than Smith & Wesson, well at least after the war.
The MK. III, Mk.V and King Cobra and even the Anaconda all share the same lockwork that is very different from the pythons and older Colts. They simply aren’t as nice to shoot in either single or double action. The fact is they were built to a price point to compete directly with S&W.
